Dr. Ioannis Avramis
Dr. Ioannis Alexander Avramis is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in spinal surgery for both adult and pediatric patients. With extensive training in spinal surgery, Dr. Avramis is dedicated to providing comprehensive treatment for spinal deformity in both patient populations.
As the Medical Director of the BSW Spine and Scoliosis Center at BUMC, Dr. Avramis leads the way in developing innovative treatments for spine conditions. Previously, he served as the research director of the Baylor Scott and White Scoliosis Center - Plano.
Born in Houston and raised in southern California, Dr. Avramis has an impressive educational background. He graduated with honors summa cum laude from UCLA, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned his medical degree from UC Davis and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles County Hospital. During his fellowship at UC Davis Medical Center and Shriners Hospital for Children-Northern California, Dr. Avramis received specialized training in adult and pediatric spinal surgery.
Passionate about advancing the field of spinal surgery, Dr. Avramis actively participates in research, publications, and professional societies. He is a member of prestigious organizations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Avramis has contributed to over thirty medical publications and spine textbook chapters and holds a medical patent.
Beyond his research and academic pursuits, Dr. Avramis is also focused on patient outcomes and experiences. He is interested in the development of instruments and techniques that result in more successful and less painful surgical experiences for his patients.
